Green Homes Grant unveiled in Summer Economic Statement
In a ‘win win’ move for homeowners and local businesses in England, Sunak also announced a new Green Homes Grant which will apply from September.
The Government will provide at least two-thirds of the cost of improvement work for homeowners and landlords to make their properties more energy efficient. A cap of up to £5,000 per household will apply.
The Government will provide additional support for those on the lowest incomes, where the scheme will fully fund energy efficiency measures of up to £10,000 per household.
Eligible homeowners and landlords will be able to use the voucher to pay for green improvements, such as installing insulation.
Reducing emissions from heating homes is a key objective for the Government so it can reach the target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As well as making homes warmer and more environmentally friendly, the Chancellor believes the Green Homes Grant scheme could support over 100,000 jobs for local businesses.
