Questions and Answers
Flood victims and RTI
I was affected by the recent flooding and I wasn’t able to file all of my RTI returns on time. What should I do?
If you have been affected by flooding and you are submitting your RTI return late, use late reporting reason ‘G’ on your submission. This will prevent a late filing notification and penalties.
If you’ve already sent in your submission and received a penalty in respect of a payment or a submission as a result of delays caused by flooding, you should appeal on line at HMRC Online services and use the appeal reason ‘fire/flood/natural disaster’ this will give you an immediate response.
HMRC has also set up a Tax Helpline for anyone affected by the recent severe weather and floods. The helpline will enable anyone affected to get practical help and advice on a wide range of tax problems they may be facing. The helpline is 0800 904 7900.
