We focus our accountancy skills specifically on small business and individual taxpayers to over 80,000 clients. We specialise in providing accountancy services, tax returns, payroll, bookkeeping, tax savings, and tax advice to our clients - Sole Traders, Partnerships, Limited Companies and Personal Taxpayers. We have established processes in place, along with access to excellent ongoing training and technical support in all aspects of the role. We focus on utilising technology and enjoy using cutting edge apps and cloud-based software to better service our clients.

We are looking for a Senior Accountant/Practice Manager to join our expanding accountancy practice located in Edinburgh. Our work is varied and interesting and we provide a friendly, flexible, and proactive all year-round service to small businesses and individuals in the local area.

THE ROLE

The key duties of this role are as follows:

Client Management: Oversee a small portfolio of clients, providing comprehensive accounting and financial services including tax planning, compliance, and advisory services.

Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and train junior accountants, ensuring high-quality work and professional development.

Quality Control: Review financial statements, tax returns, and other deliverables prepared by junior staff to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.

Business Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement within the practice and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and client satisfaction.

Financial Reporting: Prepare and review management accounts, financial statements, and reports for clients and the practice.

Compliance and Regulations: Ensure all client and practice activities adhere to current accounting standards and regulations.

Client Relations: Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as the main point of contact and providing exceptional customer service.

Operational Management: Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the practice, including resource allocation, workflow management, and performance tracking.

IDEAL CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Education: ACA, ACCA, ICAS, AAT or equivalent qualification.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting, with a proven track record in a supervisory or managerial role within an accounting practice.

Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software, mainly Quickbooks and Taxcalc ; strong knowledge of tax regulations and financial reporting standards.

Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly.

Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in training and mentoring staff.

Client-Focused: Commitment to providing excellent service to clients and maintaining strong professional relationships.

Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a focus on continuous improvement.

You must have a “can do” attitude and be able to work independently with appropriate support. You should be proactive, with a problem-solving attitude. You will be confident in engaging with clients to build a rapport and offer solutions and direction.
