Due to the increase in the Covid-19 infection rate, the Government is reviewing its guidance to local authorities to support businesses in the new Tier 4 lockdown category.

It is anticipated that Local Restrictions Support Grants (LRSG) will be in line with the level of support for businesses required to close during the previous lockdown period.

The Government has advised that all Tier 4 businesses required to close will be eligible for grants of up to £1,500 for each 14-day period of closure. Grants will be administered by local authorities. We anticipate grants for eligible businesses could be available as follows:

  • For eligible properties with a rateable value of £15,000 or under, grants to be £667 for each 14-day period the business is closed
  • For eligible properties with a rateable value of between £15,000-£51,000 grants to be £1,000 for each 14-day period the business is closed
  • For eligible properties with a rateable value of £51,000 or over grants to be £1,500 for each 14-day period the business is closed

Eligible businesses could include pubs and what are considered non-essential retail stores which have been forced to close.

In a welcome development for the struggling hospitality sector, we also understand that some local authorities are set to begin accepting applications for the Christmas Support Payment for wet-led pubs . This could potentially allow them to access a one-off cash grant of £1,000 to support them over the festive period.
