Small Business Saturday 2017 campaign date announced
The nationwide campaign, which celebrates and promotes the UK’s five-million-plus small businesses, has confirmed its fifth annual event will be held on Saturday, 2nd December.
Small Business Saturday is the most popular annual event for small businesses nationwide, with at least 80% of local authorities and millions of consumers throwing their support behind the campaign each year.
The interest in the campaign has grown rapidly, with a 53% increase of spend with small businesses on the day between 2013 and 2016. During Small Business Saturday 2016, it was estimated that some £717m was spent by consumers with small businesses across the country.
The Small Business Saturday initiative was originally founded in the United States by American Express back in 2010, who remain the lead supporter of the UK version of the campaign.
Michelle Ovens MBE, Director, Small Business Saturday UK, said: “Over the last five years, Small Business Saturday has had a tangible economic impact on small businesses around the country.
“We have a growing and highly engaged network of small business owners who recognise the benefit of getting involved and making Small Business Saturday work for their own companies and in their own communities.
“Our aim this year is to get even more businesses around the UK to experience that effect.”
As with previous years, Small Business Saturday 2017 events will be planned nationwide in the lead up to and during the day itself. This will include the customary UK-wide bus tour and the Small Biz 100 feature.
