Sending lots of emails can be a time-sapping activity and there may be quicker ways to communicate information or conduct conversations. Consider other methods such as sending messages through tools like Slack or Teams, speaking on the phone or setting up a quick video call. 

Social media 

Social media has many business benefits, but it can be easy to spend lots of time on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and LinkedIn but not achieve results that benefit your business.  

Think about why your business should be using social media and how it fits with your business plan. If you have employees, draw up a social media policy for when and how they should use social media at work. Outsourcing your social media activity to external service providers or employing internal marketing staff can also be beneficial.  

Consider your working environment 

The environment in which you work can have an impact on your productivity. A badly-lit, uncomfortable room can reduce your and your employees’ effectiveness and mean you don’t work to full capacity. 

Consider the places you and your staff work from and ensure there’s suitable equipment and furniture. An appropriate workstation and chair are important, as is good lighting and a strong internet connection. With many people now adopting hybrid working and operating from multiple locations, including their own home, it’s important that you ensure that your working environment is effective and doesn’t impact negatively on your business’ productivity.  

Motivate and upskill your workforce 

Employees are vital to a business’ productivity so it’s important they are motivated and possess all the skills needed to do their job effectively. 

Ensure you have strong communication channels set up and staff know how to use them.  

Encourage collaboration and the open sharing of ideas. 

Identify any skills gaps and provide necessary training. 

Look for ways to boost team morale such as through social events and offering benefits like hybrid working, healthcare and discounts on leisure activities.
