Business rates revaluation in England postponed
The planned business rates revaluation for 2021 has been postponed as a result of the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
The planned business rates revaluation for 2021 has been postponed as a result of the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
In his Spring Statement 2018, the then Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, had announced that the next business rates revaluation in England was going to be brought forward from 2022 to 2021. However, the Government has now decided against the 2021 revaluation, to avoid adding to the pressures that businesses already face.
Communities Secretary Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP said “We have listened to businesses and their concerns about the timing of the 2021 business rates revaluation and have acted to end that uncertainty by postponing the change.
“Now is the time for us to continue to focus on supporting businesses affected by the pandemic, including through our unprecedented package of almost £10 billion in business rates relief.”
This news follows previously announced measures to help shops with their rent during the COVID-19 outbreak and release of a raft of Business Rate Relief and cash grants schemes.
