Don’t miss the 31st July Tax Credits renewal deadline
If you receive Tax Credits you will need to notify HM Revenue and Customs by 31st July about any changes to your circumstances or income.
If you receive Tax Credits you will need to notify HM Revenue and Customs by 31st July about any changes to your circumstances or income.
Taxpayers whose circumstances have changed in the last 12 months or who have received a letter to reconfirm their income details should contact HMRC as soon as possible. Should you fail to respond by the deadline you could receive the incorrect amount of tax credit and you will need to repay any overpayments.
Those who have received an annual review pack or text and have already made a declaration including confirming their income and circumstances, will not need to take any further action.
However, you should contact HMRC immediately if you disagree with any of the information in the pack or letter and tell it about any changes.
If you are self-employed and the income HMRC holds on its records for 2019/20 is an estimate because you have yet to file your tax return, you have until 31st January 2021 to tell HMRC about your actual income.
HMRC’s Director General for Customer Services, Angela MacDonald, said: “Tax credits provide much needed financial support to our customers. But we know that many customers leave it to the last minute to renew their tax credits award.
“The time to renew your tax credits is now, you don’t need to wait until deadline day on 31st July.”

Beware of tax credit scams
Cyber criminals may take advantage of tax credits renewals by sending you a text, email or calling you offering fake support.
If you receive a text, email or call claiming to be from HMRC, saying you can renew your tax credits or access financial help, and you are asked for your credit card or bank details, it is likely to be a scam.
If you are uncertain whether a text, call or communication please do not hesitate to call us on 01225 231040 or use our online contact form.
